MASABA

Masaba Gupta’s style and label are like her name, unique. This label has been around since 2009 and Masaba debuted at the Lakme fashion week 2010. Her brand has since then grown quite a lot, and her brand has a quite refreshing style.

Recently, she collaborated with stylist, designer and close friend Rhea Kapoor. They have created a clothing line that is the perfect blend of old school and modern. She also collaborated with Nykaa to create her own set of ‘lips and tips’ (lipsticks and nail paints)

RITU KUMAR

Ritu Kumar is one of India’s first designers. Her designer label has been around since the 70s. She specializes in embroidery and vintage traditional clothes. It is thanks to her that the Mughlai clothing style was brought back into the modern world.

Ritu Kumar is the first person to have her “boutique” in India. For her work in the field of fashion, she has been bestowed with honours from the Indian and French government. 

SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE

When you think of gorgeous, extravagant lehengas and sarees, you automatically think of Sabyasachi. His traditional wear has been dominating runways for years.

This designer from Calcutta has shown us how glamorous old Indian conventional outfits can be. He describes his style as ‘personalized imperfection of the human hand’ and has recently collaborated with brands like H&M and L’oreal.

MANISH MALHOTRA

It can be said without a doubt that Manish Malhotra is one of India’s leading designers. His first project was designing a dress for Juhi Chawla. Since then, he has developed all kinds of clothing for hundreds of Bollywood films. With his unique style and hard work, he has become Bollywood’s favourite designer.

But, he isn’t restricted to that. His designs are sold globally. He has also designed an outfit for the king of pop, Michael Jackson. Malhotra has launched his Haut couture makeup line with Myglamm. He recently announced the opening of his flagship store at Jubilee Hills.

Monte Carlo is very famous for its very comfortable woollen wear. They do make other garments too, though. One look at the name makes people think that the brand is Italian.

It is a brand owned by the Nahar group and is based far away from Monaco, in Ludhiana, Punjab. The brand was named after the European city just to attract the Indian customer base. 

WESTSIDE AND ZUDIO

These are the two retail chains owned by the TATA group. 

Westside is a trendy chain store for apparel in India. This chain has shown immense growth in the past two decades. All the designs are in the house. 

Zudio is a new brand, which is taking over the market because it provides suitable quality clothing at very affordable prices. So, it has become an excellent choice for youth. 

ALLEN SOLLY 

This is another brand that sounds foreign but isn’t. It was bought by a company called Madura garments in the 90s. It has now been acquired by Aditya Birla group. This brand revolutionized formal wear in India. The concept of Friday dressing is Allen Solly’s. They make clothes that are fashionable yet classy and formal. Hey also have a clothing line for kids. 

Aditya Birla group also owns Louis Philippe, Peter England and Van Heusen. 

MANYAVAR & MOHEY

Manyavar ads featuring celebrities like Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma, Kartik Aaryan, Alia Bhatt, etc. are quite popular. This brand started as a men’s traditional clothing line. With their very popular tagline “come home to Siyarams”, the brand is one of the largest textile manufacturers of the country. They’ve pioneered in Men’s fashion for any occasion.

Their headquarters is in Kamala Mills. They have a successful chain of retail stores spread across the country for decades. Subsidiary brands include J Hampstead, Oxemberg, Siya, Cadini and Casa Moda.
