Weekend getaways in India you must visit or plan for your long weekends. These all are soothing places and can to take off your shoulder’s burden.

Travel brings tranquillity to the restless soul. We often get caught up in the hustle-bustle of life that we forget to make time for ourselves. A short trip now and then is vital for a person for distressing, chilling and relaxing. For many people, Getaways like this are even therapeutic. Here are some destinations to escape to for a much-needed break.

  • Gangtok, Sikkim

Gangtok is a place that everyone must see at least once in their lifetime. It is a beautiful city on the lap of clouds. The main attraction of Gangtok is the MG Marg, where no vehicles can enter. The street is also India’s first litter and spits free zone. There are several other things to do, like sightseeing and shopping as well. 

  • Muzhappilangad, Kerala

The beautiful beach of Muzhappilangad is located in Kannur. It is the longest drive-in beach in Asia. Driving along this beach is a fantastic experience.

  • Kasol, Himachal Pradesh

Placed in the lovely mountains of the Himachal, Kasol is a tourist favourite. The Chalal Trek trail and the hot water spring are what make the place so lovable. Many people have “biking to Kasol” on their bucket list.

  • Chitrakote Falls, Chhattisgarh

This waterfall is famous as the Niagra falls of India, owing to the similar shape. It’s located in the Bastar district. Chitrakote falls are the widest in the country. During monsoon, the waterfall with its rainbows is a sight to behold.

  • Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand

This national park at Chamoli is a literal valley of flowers. It has hundreds of types of flowers that are spread all over the valley. It’s a great place to go trekking. 

  • Backwaters, Kerala

The backwaters at Kerala is one of the fantastic weekend getaways to unwind at. Boating here during the sunset is an experience that cannot be missed. The breeze, the palm trees and the calm atmosphere will soothe you.

  • Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir

It is hands down one of the best places for snow sports in India. You can go on gondola rides, skiing and sledging. The mountains are scenic and very beautiful.

  • Purushwadi, Maharashtra

Purushwadi is a tiny village that’s an ideal getaway. What makes this place remarkable is the annual fireflies’ festival. You can stroll around and see thousands of fireflies light up the village.

  • Pachmari, Madhya Pradesh

Here’s a hill station that is the perfect serene weekend getaway. Pachmari is a UNESCO recognized biosphere reserve. It is also known as the queen of the Satpura Range. 

  •  Havelock Islands, Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The islands are indeed a little far, but the trip is worth it. These islands are full of beautiful beaches. Some of the famous ones are Ratnagar beach, Kalapathar beach, Elephanta beach, etc.

  •  Sunderbans, West Bengal

Wildlife lovers will love this. The Sunderbans are the most significant delta and the thickest mangrove forest in the world. It is home to the majestic Royal Bengal Tigers.

  •  Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh

This place was a port when India was a colony. Now it is an excellent place for a short trip. Art and History buffs will enjoy this place. At Machilipatnam, one can experience the rich history and culture of Andhra Pradesh. 

  • Konark, Odisha

Konark is historically famous for the sun temple. It is an architectural marvel and a UNESCO world heritage site. Other than that, there are beautiful beaches to visit. There’s also an annual dance festival which is impressive. 

  • Rann of Kutch, Gujarat

It is one of the most massive salt desserts in the world. There’s a sanctuary here which is home to many endangered species of animals. The Rann Utsav is an awesome festival held every year during the winter season. 

  •  Chikhaladhara, Maharashtra

Chikaladhara is a hill station that is perfect for chilling and escaping the heat during summer. Spending a weekend amidst nature, looking at waterfalls is the ideal way to unwind. 

  •  Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

This place is ideals for young and older adults. Rishikesh is a famous pilgrimage spot. Recently, it has become the adventure capital of India. You can also relax at the banks of the Ganges. 

  •  Calangute, Goa

All of you must have planned a goa trip with your friends at least once. If your way to unwind is a weekend filled with partying and fun, Goa is the apparent option. 

  •  Lonavala / Khandala, Maharashtra

These are famous hill stations near Mumbai and Pune. The nature around here is beautiful, and these places are great for foodies. For a laid back outing, Lonavala and Khandala are ideal.

  •  Majuli Island, Assam

Majuli is an Island in the Bramhaputra River. It is the world’s biggest river island. It is a great place to witness the culture of Assam. Majuli is one of the hidden gems of the northeast. 

  • Mount Abu, Rajasthan

A beautiful hill, Mount Abu is spiritually bountiful. A great place to visit is Guru Shikhar, the highest point of the Aravalli range. The view from the Guru Shikhar is breathtaking.
