Stress – A state of being emotionally and mentally tensed.
Being stressed is like a stretched rubber band.
It feels like you are constantly being pulled apart and you do not know when you will snap.
You can either be restored to your original state of mind gently or you will be stretched till you finally break.
Being in a constant state of stress is not good for the emotional, psychological and physical state of mind and body.
In the following article, seven best ways to handle stress have been mentioned–
1. Identify the cause
Find the root cause of your stress. After identifying what is the cause of your problems, you can search for the solutions. Every effect has a cause.
The root of your stress can be your own actions rather than circumstances. If it is your actions, start changing your behaviour. If it is the circumstance, strive to change them.
It will not be easy to spark a change after a long period of time. But baby steps lead to a giant stride.
Maintain a stress diary to understand your situation better.
Write down everything that causes you stress and then work on it.
2. Finding a Catharsis
It is the process of releasing your emotions.
Find your way of releasing your pent-up emotions. It can be through reading, writing, watching a movie or series, jogging, playing sports, cooking or just sky gazing.
It is not good for health to bottle up stressful emotions.
Life can be stressful many times. It is necessary for you to relax and rest.
Although you may feel that it is all in your head, stress can take a major toll on your body.
You must not forget that health is wealth.
4. Temporary solutions
Find a quick way to relieve yourself of stress.
Experiment and find a method that helps you to calm down.
This method can be either through deep breaths or looking at the scenery outside or a particular calming smell or closing your eyes for a moment and relaxing your mind.
Discover the method that helps you calm down quickly.
For me having a sound sleep works.
5. Worrying and Caring
You should know the difference between worrying about something and caring about something.
Are you worried about something?
Are you doing anything about it?
If not, then you are simply increasing your stress level.
Caring about something does not influence your mental and emotional stability.
But worrying about something intensively can cause stress for no reason.
At this stage, it is necessary to analyze if the problem is worth worrying about.
6. Follow the 4As of stress management
Avoid, Alter, Adapt and Accept.
Avoid what stresses you. You have identified the root cause of your stress. If it is the people, avoid them. If it is a particular situation, avoid it.
Alter the situation if it is not possible to avoid it. Conform to the circumstances. Communicate with others and be assertive over things that cause you stress.
Adapt to the situation. If you cannot alter it, adapt to it. Change your behaviour according to the situation to avoid stress.
Accept the situations if you cannot avoid, accept or adapt to. Go with the flow. Don’t try to control your environment to a point that it suffocates you. Not everything can be controlled.
7. Embrace your (so called) flaws
Be proud of who you are and do not let others make you feel inferior.
When you are confident in yourself, you can live a happier life.
So stay stress-free and enjoy your life. After all, you only live once.
