Bollywood has been the producer of Indian Cinema for over a 100 years and on an average, it produces 1500 movies per year.

But why does that happen that only a few are acknowledged throughout the year?

It’s because of the kind of promotion the producers do for the movies.

But there are many movies which are not celebrated or worse which are not even known.

Here we have 10 underrated movies of Bollywood that you must watch.

1.Kahani 1&2 

The Kahani enterprise as you know has been a blast. With amazing plot, intriguing twists and mind-blowing thriller, this movie is a lot more underrated than its potential strength. It holds your attention till the very end. Spectacular performances of Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal prove that they’re the finest in the industry and this movie should get its due attention.

2. Chakravyuh

A movie with a cause that’s what I would call it. It mirrors the society and the plight of the poor tribals. It also gave the reasons for the rise of Naxalism in poverty-stricken states. Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, Om Puri, Manoj Bajpai created a magic on screen in form of chakravyuh . This movie is an apt example of a purposeful movie and is one of the most underrated movies of all times. It was released in 2012 directed by Prakash Jha.

3. Newton

Well, this is a recent one. Starring Rajkumar Rao as a dutiful election officer who wants to conduct a free and fair election with impeccable writing, ample humour this creation is truly marvellous. Newton offer everything that a movie should. A purpose, a story, a message everything that Indian cinema needs. Directed by Amit Masurkar it was released in 2107.

4. Aakhon dekhi

Released in 2013 starring Sanjay Mishra, Rajat Kapoor Seema Pahwa, this is a story of Bauji who makes a deal only to trust those things that he has seen with the eyes. Just because of his decisions he is assumed to be crazy. This movie teaches you many things apart from amazing acting. It teaches so much about life and light.

5. Ghazi Attack

Against the backdrop of 1971 naval attack of interception of Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi, Ghazi Attack is an Indian war movie directed by Sankalp Reddy. The movie stars Rana Daggubati, Tapsee Pannu, Kay Kay Menon, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni. Full of good performances and a story that keeps you hooked.

6. Aligarh

An unsung and unknown biopic of a Homosexual professor of Aligarh Muslim University, on whom a sting operation was carried out to find out his sexual orientation. The professor developed a special bond with the journalist who was covering the story. Starring Manoj Bajpai and Rajkumar Rao in lead roles this movie was released in 2015 but are still unknown.

7. Masaan

Ever wondered what the divine ghats of Varanasi house a deadly cremating ground too? Well, what would be the life of those people be like? Watch Masaan to answer the question. Anthologies divergent stories that converge at the end, massan is an epiphany of love, social status, life and its cruelties. This movie won two awards at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and was a blast in the world of art feature films.

8. Margarita with a straw

The journey of discovering self is a revendous on the next level. Margarita with a straw is such a story of a bi-sexual woman who rebels against the society in pursuit of finding herself. It is purely a simple experience, an emotion that can only be felt. It was released in 2014, directed by Shonali Bose and starring Kalki Kochelin, Revanthi, Sayani Gupta and William Moseley.

9. Nil Battey Sannata

A heartwarming story of a mother-daughter relationship this movie also aptly promotes Adult Literacy in a whole new level. Starring Swara Bhaskar and Ratna Pathak Nil Battey Sannata were released internationally in 2015 as The New Classmate. Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, this movie is roughly underrated and every parent should watch this.

10. Ship of Theseus

Acclaimed as the “ hidden gem of the year” this movie gives you a 360 swirl of justice, beauty, meaning of life and varied related subjects. Based on the concept of Ship Of Thesus this movie brings to life different emotions through an experimental photographer, an ailing monk and a young stockbroker. This movie was released in 2013 and is directed by Kiran Rao.

These were some movies that are terribly neglected and underrated movies of Bollywood.

These movies have made their presence felt at the international stage as well but are still unknown to the place of their origin.
